Kate Gosselin's True Hollywood Story to Air on E!

It seems a little late for E!'s True Hollywood Story to set its sights on Kate Gosselin, whose acrimonious divorce rotated out of the tabloids months ago. Nevertheless, THS's next episode (Wednesday, 10 p.m. ET) promises to "bring viewers up to date on her intriguing story."

Of course, a little Internet searching can do that, too. In January, Gosselin took the kids on a trip to Australia, where they filmed more footage for Kate Plus 8. Naturally, she was photographed in a teeny bikini, bringing more free publicity to the plastic surgeon who performed her tummy tuck. (There used to be six babies in there!)

Since returning to the States, she's been photographed picking her kids up at the school bus stop and buying Sake at a local Reading, PA., liquor store. If none of this sounds particularly exciting, well, that's because it isn't. Gosselin followers in the media have made the best of it, conjecturing about the two sextuplets -- Alexis and Collin -- who got kicked out of school last fall. Gossip writers are also still speculating about Kate's relationship with her ever-present bodyguard, Steve Neild.

But even those stories aren't feeling very relevant these days. The people who still actually watch Kate Plus Eight are those who enjoy gentle, kid-friendly reality TV with adorable children. The people who care about salacious headlines now have better offerings to sample. Neither group of people seems especially likely to tune into a THS about Kate Gosselin right now.

That's why True Hollywood Story's Friday installment is much more understandable: Per the website, it's trotting out a "brand new episode" about Charlie Sheen (though the description of that show sounds exactly like the one that aired about Sheen on Aug. 11.)

Which show will get higher ratings? I'd go with the Hollywood party boy who's in trouble right now.
